Hāpua Walk

🚶 Guided Walk · Duration: 180 mins · Capacity: 20

Discover the beauty of Hāpua Farm, a property that combines rolling farmland with wetlands, native bush, and sweeping views of the surrounding hill country. Led by Michael Birch, a member of the Ruamahanga Restoration Trust, the walk begins on the farm’s airstrip, offering beautiful views of the Tararua Ranges before descending through farm tracks, open paddocks, and bush trails.

Along the way, explore wetlands created by large landslides 11,000–12,000 years ago, and continue east to two protected QEII covenant areas of native bush. Here, you’ll encounter towering totara, matai, and kahikatea, as well as abundant birdlife including kererū and tūī. Last year's participants had rave reviews of this walk!

Walk Format:
The walk covers around 6 km. You must be able to climb over fences and walk for 3 to 4 hours over uneven ground. Some climbing is involved - this is a hill country farm.
